Rockshelters nestled in the Guadalupe Mountains are often decorated with painted images from thousands of years ago. This region played an integral role in the lives of ancestral peoples, as is clearly documented on the smooth rock surfaces that now hold their stories. Throughout time the Guadalupe Mountains have held their importance to the Mescalero Apache people.
