Landscape
Ancestral peoples built their lives in this region, sustaining themselves on the diverse water sources, plants, and animals. Today these resources remain, including ancient homes and other places created thousands of years ago. On this page you can explore the landscape of southeast New Mexico, how it was formed, and some of the ancient sites that still remain.
As you explore these sites virtually and in-person it is important to remember that they were once home to those who settled them. Today these places hold their memory and remain alive and sacred to their descendants. Visit respectfully by treating these places the way you would as a guest in someone’s home.
